Dr. Dylan Reinhart is a former CIA operative who’s created a quieter life for himself as a professor and author of a best-selling book on abnormal behavior. When tenacious and resourceful NYPD detective Lizzie Needham approaches him to help her solve a serial killer case, he taps into his old skill set and reaches out to a CIA friend who has access to invaluable top-secret intelligence. As Dylan gets lured back into the adrenaline filled world of law enforcement, he and Lizzie realize that, together, they make the perfect team.
What i love most about this series is that it doesn’t solely rely on the fact that he was a CIA agent..it is all rounded, involving everything else he has been and evolves to be. He is a professor and an author apart from being an ex-CIA operative. The second thing i love about it is that he is a happily married gay man,creating no room whatsoever for a romantic relationship to bloom in the partnership,which to be sincere, is a breathe of fresh air. i am so sick and tired of all the tension built up or rather brewed up in these hetero-pairings. Third, the visuals..do any of you judge a series by its visuals?? i tend to do that a lot. The way they show you how he is trying to put a case together in his mind is amazing. Don’t get me wrong, I love the ‘ahah’ moments where the character doesn’t tell you how she/he has figured it out till when they are out arresting the bad guy but once in a while, show me before hand what led to that moment.
Its a bit too slow, especially if you are a MacGyver type of fan..you know, the episodes that begin and end too fast and have utter chaos in the middle. It might also appear boring if you don’t like the predictability that is often portrayed. There is also next to zero percent of instinct implied in solving the cases. I guess they needed a title and they got one.
I have loved Alan Cumming(Plays Dr. Dylan Reinhart) since the beginning of ‘The good Wife’. Was his character stronger in that series than in this one?yes, definitely was. I guess that’s why many people don’t like this. But isn’t the beauty of being a kick ass actor/actress acting out the character you have been given the way it should be??? Oh well, I am a fan, whether he acts a thriller or a soap opera.
