Outset is a Kenyan short film about ”Oti” who is facing a mid life crisis of sorts, exhibited by a severe drinking problem who gets a second shot at life through his wife’s intervention through kindness and love.

I like this movie because it shows the reality of Kenyan families today- men under pressure to succeed in life by a certain age resort to alcohol when they feel they have failed. It is a sad reflection on our society and we must change. It gives you the feeling that life is not about success as we know it, or love as society tells us about it, but more that faith, self believe, kindness and most importantly, character is needed to overcome addiction.

Oti was lucky enough to marry a woman of character and that is what saved him. It’s funny to see his tribulations though, a must watch film.

The film is in post production and set to premiere at the end of June 2015.

Outset Crew

DIRECTOR – E.M.MWANGI

Before anything, E. M. Mwangi is a Christian first, then a filmmaker. Why did he choose film? “Because there are so many issues in society that are either yet to be addressed, or are addressed poorly. And because of that, when you can’t appeal to someone through the front door of reason, you have to appeal to them through the back door of IMAGINATION – hence film.” Any other works?  He has Directed – Shattered flower, and award winning documentary on Female Genital Mutilation. – Director – Gogo’s Seed – a stop motion animation film highlighting the plight of elephants. – Director – Outset – A short film that highlights the missing component, in combating addictions – LOVE. – Cinematographer – Shoes – A short story that uses a pair of feet to appeal to the emotion, Love and Rejection.

PRODUCER – CHARITY MORAA

“I am a film maker because film chose me… Who am I kidding? I chose it or maybe we met in those lonely lost days. When I watch a film I am lost in it all. Nothing else matters and for a second everything else is in synchrony. I am a writer and using that I make things up then come up with scripts then arrange for their shootings from organizing a crew to making sure you watch the end product no matter where you are. This is my way of giving back, being useful and making a difference. In everything I do I hope to make you lost in it all.. I have produced and written and directed Beautiful people, produced and written and Outset. I have written We Steal and Political quagmire.”
